The general consensus is that political posts are not viable on this site. I interpret that anecdotally from the fact that any post involving anything politically adjacent, including posts about technology related to a person in the political sphere, are quickly flagged. The discussions that happen prior to being flagged are largely charged, talking past each other, regurgitating points and fallacious.
From what I’ve seen the recommendation is to go to sites like https://www.themotte.org/ to have these discussions.
I for one come here to get a pause on reading U.S. based political news (and celebrities, and any type of sports).
The top comment on "Teen on Musk's DOGE team graduated from 'The Com'" https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=42981756 is by a moderator after many DOGE stories were flagged on the same day.
"Hacker News seems one of the best places to discuss politically-influenced news..."
Because it is relatively uncorrupted by political discussions...
