(using C++ and DirectX because "face it: you're never going to compile for Mac or Linux", so not only is the content of no interest to me, the author seems to be the kind of asshole whose notion of argument is to claim that people who disagree with him are simply refusing to face reality)
As a contrary, feels to me like the author has a lot invested in a highly particular community that started exactly there (very low level, very not proprietary OS/GPU, hence very opinionated) and is explicitly trying to bring that community back from what the author sees as the brink.
You can certainly disagree with that being the brink, but for me this is someone showing their asshole up front and asking you to dive in if you want to.
