I think that it connects to influencer culture and tech platforms. Every business is now about getting an audience, then selling access to that audience.
This seems like a fair deal to me. If nobody wants to pay for what they consume, but everyone still feels entitled to it, you sell the audience instead of the content.
I think a lot about how Twitch started out as an alternative option to celebrity culture, and within a few years was an exact replica of celebrity culture but for Internet weirdos. It’s not being haughty or pretentious to say that popularity ruins everything slowly, it’s just a fact.
Tripple sell out, as the bar for someone to indipendently put up media content, is continiously raised, and obscured, leaving only "free" platforms as an outlet.
Quadrupul sell out actualy, as the only way to get sold, is to pay for a place in line.
Which has clearly, got us to the point of alienating ever greater numbers of people, the import of which is bieng obscured, by a growing
base population that is new(ish) to the internet.
