Latest studies i've read link these types of vision impairment to the lack of proper lighting, that reduce the release of dopamine (that is released also when we are exposed to sun) and that lack of dopamine can play a role in lens elongation thus causing vision problems. It is possible that studies, that concluded that computer and phone use (so always reading up close) are the cause, are just seeing correlation betwen this usage and staying indoor more (which closely correlates with computer/phone usage)

>So by using a modified augmented reality glasses, humans can read at close range with both the ciliary and medial rectus muscles relaxed, and the eyes will never get tired.

Why? The Lenovo Legion Glasses 2 documentation mentions the virtual image appears at a size of 126" at a distance of 4 meters away: https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/accessories/acc500372-legio...
For AR they are linking an article which describe a way it could be beneficial: https://eyewiki.org/AR_Computers_To_Terminate_Eyestrain_And_... But I don’t believe it exists in any device ...

As for VR no source ...

It doesn't make your eyes completely relaxed, but it's farther than computer monitors and phones/books.
