This isn’t Bill Gates’ ideas. Andrew Yang ran for president in 2020 with UBI funded by taxing AI as one of his primary campaign promises. No one seemed to care or understand, because it was still a couple years before ChatGPT launched.
If UBI is the answer (and I’m not convinced that it is), it seems like it would have been a really good idea to get all the systems in place for taxing AI and distributing funds when it was very small. Trying to do it now that these companies have billions invested and people are already seeing job losses, will be a nightmare.
