Onithe nuclear side a deal was in reach. But Trump always said that ballistic missles and money to those picking fights with Isreal: were things Iran never allowed to be talked about much less reach a deal.
i'm not in favor of this attack but trying pretened a deal was close is clearly wrong as those paying attention well knew
>a reluctance that has put the UK-US relationship under unprecedented strain.
Generally speaking people and countries are less likely to help you, when you have recently threatened, insulted and belittled them.
Everything is completely transactional for Trump. What is in it for him? There is no longer a UK-US relationship in any meaningful sense. The sooner British politicians understand that, the better.
If we finally get the broad roll-out of renewable energy out of this, that would be a silver lining to this horrible mess. I hope it is a "Things need to get worse to get better" type of situation.

Those that were paying attention knew there was a deal in place that the US withdrew from then tried to negotiate a worse deal for themselves.

Given the Greenland stuff, isn't it within EU and UK's interests to keep the US occupied in Iran?
Possibly. However:
- Europe gets a lot of it's oil through the Straits of Hormuz.
- Xi might see this as his opportunity to attack Taiwan.
It is just a huge mess in which everyone loses. Except perhaps Netanyahu and Trump, personally.
