For anyone looking for a more general renderer, https://github.com/charmbracelet/glow.
I like rendering through a browser to gain seamless hyperlink support. Conversion to html for lynx; chawan supports MD natively. They both do a nice job.
pandoc -s -f markdown -t html file.md | lynx -stdin
chawan -T text/markdown file.md
Glow is the one i've been using. It's pretty nice, and you can customize the theme.
